There is a unique kind of energy that happens when you put a seedling into the hands of a child. This World Environment Day, we didn’t just talk about climate action we headed straight to Cheleta Primary School to get our hands deep into the soil. At Seeds of the Future, we’ve always believed that the best way to celebrate the earth is to actively care for it, and there was no better place to do exactly what we love than right alongside the students.

The real stars of the day were the 45 students from the school’s 4K Club. Dressed sharply in their brilliant green uniforms, they didn’t just participate; they completely took the lead. With sleeves rolled up and smiles on their faces, these young environmentalists showed us what practical, hands-on climate action really looks like.
Working together, the students successfully planted over 120 tree seedlings spanning four different species. It was an action-packed day of digging, potting, and learning. But as wonderful as it was to see those neat rows of fresh plants, this is just the first chapter of a much larger story we are writing here. At Cheleta Primary, we are working toward an ambitious and exciting goal: to pot 5,000 seedlings by December 2026. For those just getting to know our work, Seeds of the Future is all about turning schools into stable hubs for environmental change. We help schools grow nurseries filled with a thoughtful mix of indigenous and fruit trees. It’s a layered approach that does far more than just green the compound. It teaches students the practical science of climate action, helps restore local ecosystems, and eventually creates a sustainable source of income for the school itself. The schoolyard becomes a living, breathing classroom where the kids learn by doing.

Of course, a vision this big takes a village. We couldn’t have pulled off such an engaging day without the incredible support of our partners. A massive thank you goes out to Prime Bank and the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI). Their guidance, belief in our mission, and on-the-ground support made this entire experience a resounding success. It is a beautiful reminder of what happens when great organizations back the next generation.

As we clean the dirt from our shoes and look back at the work done today, we are reminded that every great forest begins with a single seed and a willing set of hands. We are so proud of the Cheleta Primary students and cannot wait to watch this nursery hit that 5,000-seedling mark.
