On May 13, 2026, we took a monumental step toward a greener, more food-secure Kenya by officially launching the Seeds of the Future (SOTF) initiative at Cheleta Primary School in Runda, Nairobi. It was a remarkable day defined by collective action, hands-on learning, and a shared vision for empowering the next generation.

Our mission is straightforward but ambitious: we aim to transform schools into vibrant centres of climate education, environmental stewardship, and sustainable food production. We firmly believe that every school, regardless of its physical size or resources, holds the potential to serve as a practical hub for climate awareness and local food security.

Together, we inspected a variety of seedlings, explored the vertical gardens, and learned about different plant variations. With Cheleta beautifully surrounded by the Karura Forest, we took a moment to appreciate the local ecosystem while the supportive team from KEFRI guided us in learning about indigenous tree species.

At our very core, we want schools to become fully sustainable in their food and vegetable supply, and through this hands-on initiative, we are making that possible.

Cheleta, with its ample space and an already strong foundation in agricultural activities, provided the ideal environment to demonstrate our model in real-time. By stepping out of the classroom and into the garden, we are giving students the opportunity to connect with nature directly.

Through practical, hands-on environmental education and the establishment of a school tree nursery, these young learners are gaining skills that go far beyond textbooks.

The Power of Partnership

A vision this large cannot be achieved in isolation. Seeing private sector, research, and Community leaders unite around this hands-on model that brings deep purpose to our cause.

We are incredibly grateful to the dedicated technical and corporate partners who stood with us to make this launch a success, including Prime Bank, Friends of Karura, KEFRI, and the Rockefeller Foundation.

Seeing people from all walks of life come together brings so much energy to our initiative. It reinforces the reality that meaningful climate action and youth empowerment require genuine,cross-sector collaboration.

Growing Beyond Potential

What we accomplished on May 13th is just the beginning. The successful demonstration at Cheleta Primary serves as our foundation and a powerful pilot that can be replicated. As we watch these newly planted seeds take root and the students nurture their environment, we are already looking ahead.

We cannot wait to see these young seeds grow well beyond their potential. With our community and partners by our side, we look forward to seeing the fruits of this mission scale to schools across Kenya. The seeds of the future are officially in the ground. Now, we grow together.
